Our History
From a single-room clinic to Surat’s largest eye care institution — the journey of SVNM is one of vision, dedication, and service.
It all began in 2008, when Dr. Bhavin Patel laid the foundation of Retina Care Clinic at Surya Plaza, Surat, with a single doctor and a dedicated staff. Focused on treating retinal disorders, the clinic became a beacon of hope for patients suffering from vision-threatening conditions.
As the trust of patients grew, so did the need for expansion. In 2016, the clinic moved to a more advanced 3,500 sq. ft. facility at Shlokk Business Centre, enhancing its infrastructure and capabilities.
By 2018, the growing team and expanding services gave birth to a new identity — Swami Vivekanand Netra Mandir (SVNM) Eye Hospital. With a team of 3 full-time ophthalmologists, the hospital began offering comprehensive eye care services beyond retina treatment, embodying the spirit and teachings of Swami Vivekanand.
In 2022, the vision scaled further with the formation of SVNM Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., created to establish a strong and structured platform for growth, outreach, and innovation in eye care.
A major milestone was achieved on 15th August 2024, when the hospital moved to its present location at Majura Gate, Surat. Spread across 25,000 sq. ft., it now stands as the largest super speciality eye hospital in Surat, offering advanced surgical and diagnostic services in cataract, retina, cornea, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, and refractive surgery.
This journey is not just about infrastructure or numbers — it is a journey of restoring sight, dignity, and hope to thousands. And we’re just getting started.
From Modest Beginnings to a Recognized Institution
In the early days, our work was primarily focused on treating cataract blindness, one of the most common yet curable causes of blindness in India. Through free camps, outreach services, and public awareness, SVNM Eye Hospital earned trust and recognition—not just as a treatment center, but as a mission-driven institution.
Over the years, with the generous support of donors, volunteers, trustees, and the local community, we expanded our services.
A Legacy of Care, Continuing with Purpose
Throughout our journey, one thing has never changed—our unwavering commitment to service. Every milestone has been built on compassion, every achievement rooted in community support, and every patient story a reminder of why we began.
We are not just a hospital—we are a movement of sight and service. And as we continue to grow, modernize, and serve more lives, we carry forward the same values of faith, humility, and humanity that built our foundation.
From operating small eye camps in nearby villages to becoming a full-fledged hospital known for advanced treatments and surgical care, SVNM Eye Hospital’s journey has been built on the shoulders of countless well-wishers, visionary leaders, dedicated staff, and the blessings of those we’ve served. Our history is deeply rooted in the belief that medicine must come with kindness, and that true healthcare goes beyond curing—it touches lives, changes communities, and uplifts generations.
Even today, every new patient, every camp, every child fitted with glasses, or every elderly person who regains vision after years of blindness, adds a new chapter to our ongoing story. SVNM continues to stand tall—not just as a hospital, but as a living example of how one mission, born from compassion, can transform the world around it.
